Yes, the release of The Dark Knight Rises is still over 11 months away, but one question that I am sure is on many of our minds after the credits roll after seeing The Dark Knight Rises is…what now? Christopher Nolan has already been quoted as saying this will be his last Batman movie and more than likely it will be the last time we see Christian Bale in the cape and cowl…

Before I go any further, there are rumors flying around that WB is working “quitely” on a Superman/Batman team up movie, I don’t put much weight in this right now, if at all, especially because The Dark Knight Rises is still filming and the Chris Nolan produced “Man of Steel” is in pre-production, why would they not be 110% focused on these two movies at this moment? I think a Superman/Batman movie is going to go the way of the shelved Justice League movie, that never got off the ground.

I think it is safe to say we will probably see another reboot of the Batman franchise in 3-5 years and here’s why, Tim Burton did a solid job or bringing Batman to the big screen with 1989′s Batman and Batman Returns, which Joel Schumacher promptly destroyed, nearly killing the Batman movie franchise altogether. It took 8 years, an imaginative director and a strong storyline for WB to even consider looking at a new Batman script, not to mention that more than likely everyone was in agreement that we would all forget that Schumacher’s films even occurred and the new movie would have no ties to those films.

Fast forward 11 years to the release of The Dark Knight, 3 years after the release of Batman Begins and Christopher Nolan has already did a complete 180 on the remnants of what Joel Schumacher did, and now the Batman movie franchise has turned into an unstoppable freight train that WB will make sure does not derail for years to come, and The Dark Knight Rises hasn’t even finished filming!

Back to the question at hand, “What Happens Next?” I think it would be foolish for WB to rush and reboot the franchise a year or two after The Dark Knight Rises is released, they need to let this complete trilogy soak in for a while before turning the big machine and reboot a franchise that Christopher Nolan worked so hard to make sure it was done correctly.

What I think WB Studios should do, in between the completion of The Dark Knight Rises and an upcoming reboot would be to bring Batman back to television, whether it be an animated show, or live action (preferably on HBO, Showtime or Cinemax) or both. If a live action TV series was to be done right, like I said on a cable movie network I think that could bring nothing but good to WB Studios and keep the Batman frenzy alive and well until WB decides to move forward with a new movie.

Could you as a Bat-fan imagine watching a weekly series that is as dark and action packed as The Dark Knight? I see a lot of potential in taking Batman down this road but it must be done carefully and it must be done right, Mr. Schumacher…turn and walk away! Bringing Batman back to an animated series has been successful in the past, with such hits as Batman The Animated Series, and The Batman, both of which were big hits with Bat mythos and followed the comics very closely.

I personally would enjoy seeing Batman return to the small screen while waiting for the next big Batman project to get rolling, WB is going to keep fueling the fire when it comes to the Dark Knight in mainstream media, whether it be a new TV show, more movies live action or animated, or video games, this is all thanks to Christopher Nolan and company!

Whatever happens after The Dark Knight Rises, Batman Fan Site.com will be there to cover Batman wherever the road takes us, so don’t be sad that it’s the ending to one of the most prolific Batman trilogies in history, but be excited for whats to come!
